(Getty) There's no guarantee that a lack of late cautions at Pocono and Michigan would mean Kyle Busch is a two-time winner in the Cup Series in 2017. But it's worth wondering if Busch would have been in victory lane at least once if it wasn't for the yellow flags. A week after he lost the lead after the final restart of the race at Pocono, Busch was leading with 22 laps to go when NASCAR threw a caution for debris in turn 2. While second-place (and eventual race winner) Kyle Larson was catching Busch at the time of the caution, he held a comfortable lead of over a second at the time the yellow flag flew. Much like he did at Pocono after Kasey Kahne's brakes failed entering turn 1, Busch stayed out on the track during the caution flag. Larson posted the fastest lap in the third round of qualifying Friday to take the top spot for the race ahead of Martin Truex Jr. and Clint Bowyer. Bowyer had grabbed the pole from Kyle Busch, but Truex then usurped him from the top spot. Larson was the final car to make an attempt in the last round and he then beat Truex. It's Larson's second pole of the season and the fourth time he'll start first in 2017. His two other top starting efforts came because qualifying was rained out. Here's the whole starting lineup. Martin Truex Jr. (LW: 1): When you finish sixth and no one right behind you in Power Rankings finishes ahead of you, the top spot goes unchallenged. Truex led five laps and was at the front for most of the day. It was a departure from his two trips to Pocono in 2016. He finished 19th in the spring race and then 38th after hitting the wall because of a tire issue in August. 38th was about where he started on Sunday too. But he had a fast car and quickly worked his way through the field. "But when the race restarted for the final time we weren't in the preferred outside lane," Truex said. (Getty Images) Ryan Blaney avoided Kyle Busch's persistent blocking and kept Kevin Harvick at bay over the final few laps to win the first Cup race of his career Sunday at Pocono. Busch, the race leader at the time, stayed out on the race's final caution flag while most everyone else - including Blaney - headed to pit road for fresh tires. That proved problematic, as Busch sprinted away after the ensuing restart but was slowly reeled in by Blaney. As Blaney had a faster car, Busch did everything he could to keep Blaney from passing him in turns 1 and 2 with 10 laps to go. It all proved futile in turn 3, as Blaney accelerated past Busch off the corner and took the lead with nine laps to go. Harvick, who pulled into second because of the battle, tailed Blaney the rest of the way. But he couldn't get past.
